The problem with most AI consulting
The standard engagement produces a readiness assessment, a roadmap and a workshop. All of that can be genuinely useful — and none of it changes anything in your business on its own. The gap between a good roadmap and working software is where most AI initiatives quietly die, usually because the people who wrote the roadmap were never going to be the ones building it.
We work the other way around. We build production AI systems, so what we recommend is constrained by what we know actually works — including the unglamorous parts, like what happens when the model gets it wrong, and who's accountable when it does.
What we'll tell you that others won't
That a lot of AI projects shouldn't happen. If a process is broken, automating it just produces broken outcomes faster. If a task happens twice a month, the payback isn't there. If your data is a mess, that's the first project, not the AI. We'd rather say that in the first conversation than bill you to discover it.
We'll also be straight about limitations. Language models are confidently wrong sometimes — that's not a bug we can promise away, it's a property of the technology. What we can do is design so being wrong is safe: code checks the model's work, anything irreversible asks for confirmation first, and the system says "I don't know" instead of inventing an answer. That's the actual craft, and it's what separates a system you can trust from a demo.
Who we work with
Sole traders and small teams where the owner is doing all the admin, right through to multi-team companies paying for eight different SaaS subscriptions that don't talk to each other. The work looks different at each end — a solo operator wants their evenings back; a larger business usually wants consolidation and visibility — but the method is the same.
We're based in New Zealand and work with New Zealand businesses, which matters more than it sounds. GST, IRD deadlines, the Privacy Act, how NZ trades actually quote and invoice — that context is baked in rather than adapted from an overseas playbook.

We didn't just write about this — we built it
Quarvois our own platform, running a real New Zealand business every day: quoting, scheduling, invoicing, bank reconciliation and a full set of accounts, with an AI manager called Torq sitting across the whole thing. It runs on our own GPU hardware in New Zealand — so the data never leaves the country, and there's no per-token bill to a US API.
That's the difference between a consultancy that talks about AI and one that ships it. Everything on this page is something we've actually had to make work in production.
Questions we get asked
Are you an AI consultancy or a software developer?
Both, deliberately. We advise on what's worth doing and then build it. Splitting those roles is where most AI projects lose the plot — the advice stops being grounded in what can actually be delivered, and the build stops being grounded in what the business needs.
Do you do training and workshops?
We'll happily train your team on what we build, because software nobody understands doesn't get used. What we don't do is generic 'AI awareness' workshops as a product — there are people who do that well, and it's not where we add value.
How big does my business need to be?
It doesn't. Some of the clearest wins are sole operators, because there's no one else absorbing the admin and every hour saved goes straight back to the owner. We scale what we build to the business rather than having a minimum engagement size.
What if AI isn't right for my business?
Then we'll say so, and you'll have lost nothing but a conversation. We'd rather turn down work that won't succeed than take it and deliver a disappointment — this is a small market and reputation is the whole business.
